Smartphone sales up in 2021
The International Data Corporation (IDC) has published statistics on the global smartphone market in the last quarter and 2021 as a whole. The global shortage of electronic components had a negative impact on the industry in the second half of last year.
In the period from October to December inclusive, 362.4 million smart cellular devices were sold worldwide. This is 3.2% less than in the last quarter of 2020, when shipments were 374.3 million units.
Apple broke into first place with a share of 23.4%, which was facilitated by high demand for smartphones of the iPhone 13 family. In three months, the “apple” empire was able to sell 84.9 million devices.
South Korean giant Samsung is in second place with a score of 19.0%. The Chinese Xiaomi closes the top three with 12.4%. In addition, the top five included Oppo and Vivo with shares of 8.3% and 7.8%, respectively.
At the end of last year, the overall global smartphone market showed a 5.7 percent growth: shipments increased from 1.28 to 1.35 billion units. The industry is led by Samsung with 20.1%. Then comes Apple with 17.4%, and the "bronze" went to Xiaomi with 14.1%. The share of Oppo was 9.9%, Vivo - 9.5%.
