Google creates an augmented reality device

The world's leading IT companies are either already selling or actively developing augmented reality devices. Meta has Oculus headsets and prototype AR glasses, Microsoft has HoloLens, and Apple is rumored to announce its own AR gadget before the end of the year. Does not want to lag behind competitors and Google. According to The Verge, citing two anonymous sources, the corporation is working on a device code-named Project Iris. It is tentatively scheduled for release in 2024. Like the AR devices developed by Apple and Meta, the Google gadget is equipped with external cameras to show the user not only virtual objects, but also the environment. Externally, the first prototypes resemble ski goggles and do not require an external power supply.

The gadget uses a processor developed by Google (like the latest generation of Google Pixel smartphones) and the Android operating system, although the corporation is now looking for specialists to develop an alternative operating system. People from the Pixel engineering team are involved in the development, but whether Project Iris will be released under this brand is unclear. In total, Google has about 300 people working on the project. Presumably, the computing device will use not only the onboard hardware, but also access Google data centers via the Internet - this will extend its battery life.
